Enabling the Transition from Static Conventional Lighting to Dynamic LEDs

Philips has developed data over power technology that will allow the retrofit of old technology lighting to color changing LEDs without having to add an expensive data control wire.  This allows for an inexpensive retrofit opportunity for high profile public projects in to an energy saving, dynamic new technology light source.  Below are a couple of photos of projects Philips Color Kinetics has done including our local “Nabrico” building here in Nashville and the recent retrofit of the Empire State Building.  Feel free to call me if you would like to discuss.  Thank you.

Per the Philips Website:

Making LED lighting retrofits affordable
IntelliPower can reduce installation expenses for labor, materials, time, and rental equipment, lowering initial costs and bringing retrofits as well as new LED lighting installations within budget.
With IntelliPower, you can realize all the benefits of a state-of-the-art LED lighting system without having to undertake expensive or disruptive rewiring, renovation, or excavation work.

DOE to Alter LED Lighting Facts Program

Currently, for an LED fixture to be "Lighting Facts" approved, each derivation of the fixture has to be approved ( ie. each mA current rating, color temperature, etc. )

This has been almost prohibitively expensive and will change.  Per LEDs Magazine:
"At the Strategies in Light conference, a US Department of Energy representative said that later this year manufacturers can get Lighting Facts Label recognition for all members of a product family, while only fully testing one product"

The science of how temperature and lighting impacts our productivity

This an interesting article suggesting indirect lighting and daylighting as superior for offices.  I would be interested to see the science, but I think most would agree that this is true by "gut feeling".

Philips Organic LED (OLED), Lumiblade

From the Philips website and coming soon:

More than just another light source
Lumiblade is OLED lighting at Philips. Lumiblade is a large-area diffuse light source. Unlike incandescent bulbs, which generate light by passing electricity through a wire, or fluorescent lamps, which pass current through a gas, OLED lighting works by passing electricity through one or more extremely thin layers of organic semiconductor material.

Now representing: Luminis Lighting

We decided to represent Luminis here in Nashville and it is a welcome addition to my line card.  A recent Product Innovation Award winner, per the Luminis website:

Aramis LED was presented a PIA in the interior lighting category. Designed to last 50,000 hours as a result of an efficient heat dissipating design that ensures low and stable operating temperatures of the LED array, Aramis LED is ideally suited for general illumination of offices, retail stores, schools and multi-purpose spaces where efficiency, reliability and aesthetics are paramount.
